Sergei Starchenko gives 2024 Tarski Lectures

In April of 2024, Sergei Starchenko (Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Notre Dame), and his long-time collaborator Kobi Peterzil (Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Haifa) were given the honor of delivering the Alfred Tarski Lectures at the University of California, Berkeley.
Established to honor the memory and legacy of Alfred Tarski, one of the most influential logicians of the 20th century, these lectures have been given annually since 1989 by prominent logicians from around the world. This year, Peterzil and Starchenko gave three lectures on their work around a model theoretic approach to closures and flows in real tori; the interplay of o-minimality and discrete groups; and Hausdorff limits in tori and nilmanifolds.
Peterzil and Starchenko have both been invited speakers at the International Congress of Mathematicians, and in 2013 were joint recipients (along with collaborators Jonathan Pila and Alex Wilkie) of the Association of Symbolic Logic's Karp Prize. Starchenko was elected a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society in 2017.
