Po-Shen Loh

A chat with Po-Shen Loh --- Hayes-Healy Basement, Monday September 5th, 6pm

Are you interested in both math and the real world? Would you like to think outside the box? An unusual mathematician is coming to Notre Dame on Mon Sep 5: Carnegie Mellon math professor Po-Shen Loh (https://poshenloh.com). You might have seen him on YouTube, talking about a beautiful math equation. Or you might have heard of his work developing math talent nationwide, and coaching the national Math Olympiad team. Or, you might have met him when he was on tour, giving a public math talk in a park in your hometown (https://poshenloh.com/tour). He will be in town because his tour is taking him to South Bend that afternoon. He will also stop by Notre Dame for an informal, freewheeling and interactive chat with math-interested undergraduates. He'll be happy to talk about his experiences bridging math and the real world.

Prof. Loh's educational degrees are all in pure mathematics, and that is the subject he teaches at Carnegie Mellon. However, his main work is now very applied in nature, using math to invent solutions to help solve large-scale real-world problems in public health and education.
