Will give a Graduate Student Topology Seminar entitled:
The Homotopy Type of the Cobordism Category
Abstract: We will go over a landmark paper of Galatius, Madsen, Tillmann, and Weiss, where they compute the homotopy type of the cobordism category. We'll aim for quality over quantity - the paper is long and technical, so we will give an overview of the main characters (Thom spectra, nerves of categories, etc.) and a sketch of the main arguments of the proof.
