Timothy O'Meara

"Timothy O'Meara, Kenna Professor of Mathematics Emeritus and Notre Dame Provost Emeritus, died on June 17 at age 90.  Hired personally by university president Fr. Hesburgh in 1962, O'Meara served two terms as chair of the math department and did much to build it up into one of the university's strongest academic departments.  As university provost from 1978 to 1996, he worked tirelessly to enhance the academic mission of the entire university.  O'Meara was much loved by the faculty, staff and students that he served and will be dearly missed.

For a more thorough account of Professor O'Meara's life and his impact on Notre Dame, please see the university announcement and this personal tribute written by Alex Hahn, Emeritus Professor of Math and O'Meara's PhD student."
