Graduate Awards 2002:
The Richard Sady Prize recipient is Eduardo Cabral Balreira: Each year the mathematics department presents the Richard Sady Prize to the department’s best second year graduate student based on his/her performance in the basic courses he/she took in their first year. Richard Sady was a graduate student in our department and received his Ph.D. in Mathematics in 1977. He then was an assistant professor at the University of North Carolina where he died in 1982. He was beloved by many here. This fund was established in his name.
The Alumni Association Teaching Award recipient is Joshua Lesperance: A single award presented to honor an exemplary graduate student where teaching is accomplished at any time during the student’s tenure in a Notre Dame graduate program. Any graduate student who is currently enrolled or who graduated in August 2000 or January 2001 may be nominated.
